Duplex in Hersonissos

The project concerns the construction of a duplex with a basement and a pool in Hersonissos, Heraklion. The user enters the lot from the ground floor, where the kitchen, the living room, the bathroom, and the master bedroom with a walk-in closet can be found. The user can move between floors using the staircase, however there’s the possibility of adding an elevator later on. On the first floor there are two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a veranda with a view of the natural landscape. In the basement there’s a storage room and a parking space. The building’s outdoor area is largely comprised of green areas, while the pool and outdoor lounge are located on the Southeast side and the outdoor dining area is on the Northwest side. The basic materials used are in muted, earthy tones such as stone from Rethymno, wood and plaster in an off-white tone. The basic principles of our design were the integration of the building in its landscape, the adherence to a clean architectural design form, bioclimatic design based on the orientation of the building, and being as environmentally friendly as possible.
