Cube Concept undertook the renovation of Terra Blu by Kakkos Collection, located just a few minutes outside the town of Ierapetra. Positioned on a privileged hillside site to the east of the city, the hotel enjoys uninterrupted views towards both the sea and the urban landscape. Its development across six levels follows the natural topography of the terrain, a condition that strongly informed our approach. Our main design objective was to harmonize the hotel with the surrounding landscape and the earthy tones of the hill, while at the same time renewing the overall character of a building that previously retained a more classical aesthetic. We began by identifying existing architectural elements that could serve as a reference for the redesign. Among the previous facades, the arches stood out as a feature with potential. Their form became a point of departure, leading us towards a vocabulary influenced by Moroccan architecture.Within this framework, terracotta was chosen as the key chromatic reference for the entire renovation. The color works on two levels: it directly relates to the soil of the hillside, and it also resonates with the warm palette characteristic of Moroccan architecture. Combined with wooden textures, earthy beige tones, and the presence of water, terracotta defines an atmosphere of hospitality and relaxation, closely connected to the surrounding environment. The main entrance is located on the fourth floor, which also accommodates the Reception, Lobby, Boutique Store, Bar, and Main Restaurant. From this level, guests can either descend to the Spa and Gym or move outdoors towards the central pool, the À La Carte restaurant, and the Pool Bar. The existing swimming pool was redesigned to include an extended deck for sunbeds, while a new two-level pool was added. The upper shallow level functions as a water lounge with separate relaxation platforms, while the lower level serves as a 1.40 m deep swimming pool. The overflow between the two creates a waterfall effect that becomes a strong visual and spatial feature. All guest rooms were renovated with open-plan bathrooms, timeless design elements, and generous balconies that ensure privacy and unobstructed views. Where possible, ground-level rooms were enhanced with shared pools, upgrading their category and guest experience. The interior design follows the same architectural language, employing natural materials, earthy finishes, and terracotta as the unifying element throughout the project.Through this approach, Terra Blu gains a new identity that respects the existing context, makes use of its architectural potential, and at the same time redefines the character of the hotel in a comprehensive and contemporary way.
